The Foerster is a foundational instrument in every surgical specialty, from General Surgery to OB/GYN. It is defined by its large, oval, fenestrated (open) rings and transverse serrations. While its primary role is “prepping” the surgical site with antiseptic sponges, it is world-renowned for its ability to grasp and retract delicate organs—such as the lung, gallbladder, or bladder—without causing the puncture or crushing injuries common with toothed instruments.

• “Beast-Grip” Oval Rings: The fenestrated jaw design allows the sponge to “bulge” through the center, creating a high-friction lock that prevents the sponge from slipping even when fully saturated with prep solution or blood.

• Atraumatic Micro-Serrations: The inner surface of the rings features fine horizontal grooves. This allows for a “velcro-like” hold on slippery visceral surfaces, making it an ideal tool for gentle organ retraction.
