The Heaney is a manual retractor characterized by its right-angled blade and specialized “beaked” or curved distal tip. Unlike standard flat retractors, the Heaney’s blade is designed to hook under the bladder or the uterine ligaments, providing a “dead-lock” on the tissue to keep it safely away from the surgeon’s sutures and shears. Forged from high-tensile surgical steel, it is the primary choice for surgeons performing vaginal hysterectomies and complex pelvic floor repairs.
