Product Overview
The Meyerding Retractor is a robust, handheld instrument characterized by its deep, wide blade and a distinctive toothed or serrated “lip” at the distal edge. Unlike standard flat-blade retractors, the Meyerding is designed to “anchor” into the muscle or fascia. It is most commonly used in spinal laminectomies, discectomies, and large-joint reconstructions where thick muscle groups (like the paraspinal muscles) must be held back with significant force.
Key Features
-
“Beast-Anchor” Serrated Edge: The distal end of the blade features a series of small, sharp teeth or a heavy-duty serrated lip. This prevents the retractor from slipping out of position when pulling back heavy muscle—a critical feature for maintaining a consistent view in deep spinal corridors.
-
Deep-Well Blade Profile: The blade is forged with a slight concavity to securely “cradle” retracted tissue, preventing it from bulging into the surgical field and obstructing the surgeon’s line of sight.
-
High-Leverage “T-Handle” or Loop: Designed with a massive, ergonomic handle that allows the surgical assistant to use their entire hand or even two hands to apply lateral traction. This significantly reduces hand fatigue during long, physically demanding cases.
-
Reinforced Structural Neck: Forged with a thickened “neck” to ensure zero flex. Even under the maximum tension required to expose the vertebral column, the Meyerding remains rigid and stable.
-
Anti-Glare Satin Finish: Meticulously treated to eliminate distracting reflections from high-intensity overhead lights or surgical microscopes, providing a high-contrast view of the bone and neural structures.
