While it maintains the signature blunt, rounded tips and slender blades of the standard Metzenbaum, the Nelson variant is the primary choice for surgeons working within the chest cavity (thoracic) or deep within the retroperitoneum. It is designed for the fine dissection of soft tissues and vessels in restricted, deep-seated anatomical spaces.
