Product Overview
The Zep Clamp (often referred to as the Zepp or Zeppelin Clamp) is a high-tensile, heavy-duty hemostatic instrument characterized by its long, atraumatic longitudinal serrations and specialized jaw curvature. Unlike standard Rochester-Pean or Heaney clamps, the Zep is specifically designed to prevent tissue “slippage” and “bunching” during the clamping of thick, vascular pedicles. It is the primary choice for surgeons performing abdominal and radical hysterectomies where the safety of the ureters and lateral pelvic vessels depends on the stability of the clamp.
Key Features
-
“Beast-Bite” Longitudinal Serrations: The jaws are milled with deep, vertical (longitudinal) serrations. This design ensures that the thick ligaments are held in a “dead-lock” position, preventing the tissue from sliding out of the distal end of the instrument as the clamp is locked—a common failure in standard transverse-serrated clamps.
-
Atraumatic Cooling Grooves: The serration pattern is engineered to be “liquid-smooth” on the vessel walls while maintaining high friction. This ensures a secure hold without causing unnecessary fragmentation of the delicate pelvic fascia.
-
Specialized Jaw Curvature: Available in straight, slight-curve, and strong-curve variants. The curved “beast” models are specifically calibrated to match the pelvic anatomy, allowing the surgeon to “hook” the cardinal ligaments while maintaining a safe distance from the ureter.
-
Reinforced Box-Lock Authority: Features an oversized, heavy-duty box-lock hinge that prevents jaw “scissoring” under high-load conditions. Even when clamping a fibroid-enlarged uterus, the jaws remain perfectly parallel.
-
High-Leverage Ratchet System: Equipped with a multi-stage, reinforced ratchet handle that provides a palpable “click” for each level of compression. Once engaged, the clamp remains stationary until the pedicle is safely ligated.
